  Diamond Solitaire Engagement Ring

When people thing about a really classic diamond ring the classic diamond solitaire engagement ring often comes to mind. This is because this older but still very contemporary type of design is identified with Tiffany & Company. In famous movies such as Midnight Cowboy and Breakfast At Tifffany’s it is always a diamond solitaire ring mounted on its blue velvet pillow that the film’s characters are admiring.

The traditional version of this ring consists of one round brilliant solitaire diamond that is grasped by three metal prongs. The metal is usually silver or platinum if you want that classic Tiffany’s look. Nowadays the shape of the diamond solitaire can be oval, triangular or square as well as the traditional round.

The reason this ring is so beautiful is because it is so simple. There are no other stones flanking the center stone. The shank of the ring is also very simple and there is nothing engraved in the metal.

Yet another interesting design aspect of this style of diamond ring is that the diamond is perched high up off the actual band. This makes the ring resemble as small trophy once it sits on the hand.

One thing that is true of this style of ring is that it does not look that hot unless the stone in it is quite large. In order for a solitaire diamond ring to have that Tiffany engagement ring look to it the stone must be at least two carats in size. The most ideal size is a five-carat diamond stone for the ring to look perfectly in proportion – not too showy and not too small.

The reason that you don’t see that many people wearing the solo solitaire diamond ring is because these are expensive rings. It is because the one stone can really cost quite a bit. To keep the stone that is to be the centerpiece for this type of ring you might want to consider buying a lab created diamond solitaire. These lab created gems are perfect and really well made ones from Russia are almost indistinguishable from real diamonds. In fact the only difference is that the lab created versions actually don’t have flaws like real diamonds do.

If you do get a lab created diamond solitaire it might be a good idea to get it “dipped.”  This means coating the lab created gemstone with a special substance that gives it more of a rainbow sparkle.

Conversely these rings can look a little face.  If you really want your lab created stone to mimic the real thing choose a stone that is duller and don’t get it dipped. The twinkle of the diamond won’t be as startling but it will appear to be genuine.  If your stone is more in the three or four carat range it is also more likely to look real on your finger as well as only celebrities or the very wealthy tend to sport diamond solitaire rings that have five carats or more.
