All About Diamonds...
  Diamond Eternity Rings

A diamond eternity ring is a band of gems that never ends. This is because the stones are set throughout the length of the ring. There is no break and the diamonds circle your entire finger. Nowadays diamond eternity rings are quite common, especially the ones made with lab created gems but before they became so affordable they were often called “dress” diamond bands.” This is because many people cannot imagine themselves doing the dishes or mowing the lawn with diamonds facing the inside of the hand. However diamonds are amongst the hardest gems in the world so as long as they are embedded deeply into the band there is not much danger of damaging them.

The circle of gemstones embracing the finger makes the diamond eternity ring a popular choice with both brides and grooms. This is because the circle is a symbol of eternal love. Diamonds, in essence, are symbolic of the same thing. The circle is self-renewing and diamonds, being the hardest substances in the world, resist destruction. The symbolism in turn is that your love is not one that can be destroyed.

Eternity rings are not just given as wedding or engagement rings (for both men and women.) They are given on many other types of occasions as well including on birthdays and anniversaries. They can also be gifted as promise rings or given as a reward for an accomplishment. Like a tennis bracelet (but for the finger) a diamond eternity ring can be given as a present for graduation or to cement the relationship between the parents of a new child. The eternity ring is also a nice gift for someone who has fought a hard battle against an illness like cancer. The circlet shape is like the laurels that were used to crown victors of battle in Roman and Grecian times.

One of the nicest things about a diamond eternity ring is that it does not have to be worn on the finger. It can also be worn around the neck on a chain and many people often wear them like this to prevent them from damage. A true eternity ring will consist only of diamonds but some versions of the ring are interspersed with rubies, emeralds or sapphires as well. You can even find versions made with garnets or pearls as well but the look of these is not as classic.

If you are concerned about damaging stones on the back of your ring you can get what is called a half eternity ring. A half eternity diamond ring gives the illusion of having a full ring of stones around the finger. It is also a less expensive ring then the full eternity ring and it can be resized.

One disadvantage of buying an eternity ring is that you can’t really resize the full version at all. This means that if you gain weight or become pregnant there is not a way of making it smaller. Your option in that case might be to take it off and wear it on a chain around your neck.
